Exelon operates the largest U.S. fleet of carbon-free nuclear plants with more than 19,600 megawatts of capacity from 22 reactors at 13 facilities in Illinois, Maryland, New York and Pennsylvania. With more than 10,000 nuclear professionals employed focused on industry best practices to ensure safe, reliable operation throughout the fleet, training employees is a key focus. This presentation covers the Virtual Reality Initiative, a collaboration between the Nuclear Innovation and Nuclear Training departments to provide a new method of providing high-realism, impactful, and cost-efficient training to our workforce. A wide variety of educational simulations have been created, tested, and implemented for various departments with more in development.

The “Complex Environment” of nuclear is unique. Nuclear is heavily regulated and Nuclear Training must meet specific approvals and requirements. There are many thousands of employees doing different tasks, performing each task, every shift, every day – error free. And unique to Nuclear is Radiation, and the goal to make radiation exposure “as low as reasonably achievable”.
