Tractica’s Clint Wheelock leads an all-star panel of end users from UMass Medical, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the LAPD, the AES Corporation, and NASA in an exciting discussion on the practical uses for wearables in the enterprise today. The panelists’ insights reveal that there are a lot of common applications across industries, though each job environment is unique (outer space, emergency room, in the field). Finding out needs directly from the user, whether first responder, law enforcement officer, patient, utility worker, or astronaut, was a common piece of advice. In addition, there is some debate over whether an off-the-shelf or custom-built solution is best for enterprise organizations. Proprietary solutions are more expensive, while commercial products have a more established ecosystem.
