Samsung’s Wonjin Kim and his colleague Cici share a proof of concept that Samsung is currently working on with large global mining company Rio Tinto. The two discuss “the why” behind Rio Tinto’s interest in wearables and the functionality that Samsung smartwatches were able to deliver to the company, including keeping employees out of blast zones, alerting them to lightning strikes, and enabling lone workers to get help. In the next phase, Samsung will add health monitoring, stress management and more location services to its smartwatch for Rio Tinto.
