Jim Dorris joined United Rentals, Inc. (NYSE: URI) in 2012 as a corporate vice president, bringing two decades of leadership and industry experience to the company. Mr. Dorris is responsible for all aspects of safety, compliance and sustainability at United Rentals, while playing a key role in senior leadership to help define and execute the business strategy for the company. In addition, Mr. Dorris has had an entrepreneurial role for United Rentals, as the chief architect of United Academy® (https://unitedacademy.ur.com). In building the business from the bottom-up, he helped to orchestrating one of the more successful new line of business launches at United Rentals. Under his leadership, United Academy rapidly grew to become an industry leader and one of the largest safety training tech. businesses in North America. The United Academy’s award winning focus on safety, technology and workforce development has helped to drive the industry forward and improve countless lives. In addition to his role at United Rentals, Mr. Dorris is a serial angel investor with a passion and focus for technology start-ups. Jim brings a seasoned approach with a unique combination of compliance, sustainability, financial, M&A and operational expertise to his 15 plus portfolio companies. In his capacity as an investor, he has served on multiple boards and in advisory roles to numerous companies both public and private. Prior to United Rentals, Mr. Dorris was a corporate director with Cummins, Inc. (NYSE: CMI), where he was responsible for the development and execution of the global strategy for safety and operational excellence, and for providing broad leadership support to the business. Previously, Jim held leadership positions in compliance, finance and other related functions for Pfizer, Inc. (NYSE: PFE) and PepsiCo, Inc. (NASDAQ: PEP). Mr. Dorris was born in 1974 and resides primarily in Mississippi with his wife and children. When not serving in his various roles, Jim is on a soccer field helping to coach teams, applying the same principles of hard work and inspiration that he does in his business life. Mr. Dorris earned his Masters of Business, Summa Cum Laude, from the U of M, Fogelman College of Business and Economics, as well as Masters of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees from Murray State University. He also maintains active interests in Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) and technology issues, and frequently speaks on topics related to safety, sustainability, workforce development, and emerging technologies.
